Over 50 years of Thermomix ® – from a simple mixer to a multi-function kitchen appliance
It all started in 1961, when Vorwerk's first universal kitchen appliance, the VKM5, appeared on the market. It brought together seven functions in all: stirring, kneading, cutting, grating, mixing, grinding and juicing.
Then, in the gourmet paradise of France, the early 1970s saw the next quantum leap on the road to today's high-tech cooking partner. Since various forms of ‘potage’ – a cross between a soup and a stew – are so popular in France, a Swiss ex-pat living there came up with the idea of combining cooking and mixing functions in a single appliance. This made soups much easier to make.
Vorwerk was suitably impressed. This was how a cold mixer went on to become the VM 2000, our first heated mixer, affectionately known as the ‘soup mixer’. The soup mixer was equally excellent for preparing sauces and desserts.
And so the first Vorwerk heated mixer, the ‘ancestor’ of today's Thermomix ®, was born. We've come a long way since those days.
The Thermomix ® has undergone constant technical development and a host of functions have been added. The successor to the TM21 and TM31 models, the current TM6, has been on the market since 2019, and combines no fewer than 12 functions in a single appliance. Along with the wide range of Thermomix recipes, including their guarantee of cooking success, it has now become an indispensable part of the kitchen for many households.
